Trojan War

In the original story, the Greeks and the Trojans where fighting for the prettiest girl in the world, at that time. Both sides  wanted her so badly that war went on for ten years. Finally the Greeks left, or at least the Trojans thought. They were  hiding on the island close by. The Greeks then gave a big wooden horse to the Trojans as a "gift". Inside the horse were Greeks, and waited to go into the walls of troy. They then came out and started to fight again and the Greeks won the war. In the play version there is lots of humor and teen voices they are not trying to be serious they want to make it funny. they were both the same because they had the same characters and both had the same story line and the characters that were in the play were just like the ones in the story.

I think Justin Bieber is like Paris because all the girls like him and want to see him in real life and they think that he is the nicest person alive and wears the best clothes. And during the time Paris lived, everyone liked him as if he was the Justin bieber of back then. They both have different backgrounds however. Justin bieber is a singer and he is involved in a lot of music and he preforms in front of lots of people. Paris on the other hand was involved in the Trojan war, had to make everything perfect, he had to settle arguments, and everyone liked him as a person.

Imagery

Authors note: This short piece is going to be about the differences between a movie and a short stories imagery and how it effects the readers interpretation of the characters.

There are not that many short stories that have different imagery in the movie than in the short story. The short story A clean and Well Lighted Place by Ernest Hemingway  has you picturing in your mind different imagery between the short story and the movie.  The short story is about a man who stays late in a café. In the story the old man wants more and more to drink and the two waiters say that he is going to get drunk and not make it home so they force him not to have anymore and send him on his way.

First of all, The positioning of the characters in the café in the film greatly changes the way the reader interprets the story and the characters in general. For instance the old man sitting down at a table by himself with light all around in the movie. The reader would think that he is a nice person and seems like he is living a good life and he doesn't seem depressed. Put in the short story it tells the reader that the old man is sitting in a dark place in the café with a shadow covering him. That greatly changes the readers interpretation of the old man and what the reader thinks about him.

It effects the readers understanding from reading the story to watching the film greatly because how the imagery is different in both the story and the film. The reader is going to have different interprets and kind of confuse themselves after reading the story than watching the film because the imagery that was in the story to the old man in the film is very different and the scene around him makes the people interpret different thoughts and wonder what the characters are going through.

On the other hand there are also two other examples that may have the reader thinking differently. One is the scene lengths and how they are longer than usual it will get people thinking more about what is showing on the screen and getting the reader to interpret what the film is really trying to say. For instance at the end of the film when the older waiter was walking slowly back to his house it made the people watching it think that he was depressed and lonely because of how slow he was walking and how long the scene length was. The other one is the sound that really effects the tone because when people here the sound they can tell if it is a happy film or a depressing film. There is no sound in this film so you can tell that it is depressing and sad.

Many readers would like to have the film the same as the story so they can read the story and when  they watch the film they would see the same imagery as in the book. If the director of the  film made it the same as the short story it would be the same he didn't make it the same because he wanted readers to see what their interpretation would be.

Spring Assessment

Authors note: This short piece is going to be about the differences between two people in a short story and the similarities they have. And the tone of the story.

In every short story there is at least two characters that have many differences and some similarities. Just like in the short story A clean and Well Lighted Place by Ernest Hemingway there are two waiters an older one who has lots of respect for people that come in the café late and a younger waiter that has no respect for them and wants them to leave so he can get back to his family. You probably think that this is a happy story because of the title put it is not it is a depressing short story.

Many of you might know that older people like to stay up late and talk with people, That’s what the older waiter is like he loves his job and is nice to costumers that come into the café even if they stay late. The younger waiter is the opposite he doesn't like when customers come in just before closing and he has a family to take care of and wants to be with them.

The tone in the story is sadness because the old man sitting and drinking is very depressed and lives on his own and doesn't talk to anyone and get mad fun of. Also the tone is sadness because it is at night and it is quiet in the town and all the shops are closed excepted for the café and a bar. The author made this story because he might have been in the same situation as the old man sitting at the table with his drink he was probably lonely and lived by himself in a lonely place.

I recommend this book to people that like sad stories and what depressed people are like. For me I didn't like the story because it was a sad story and I like more sporty books and how some are exciting not just sad and lonely stories.

The differences between the two waiters were a lot different. The younger waiter liked his job but he didn't want to stay late working and he had a family to take care of and other things to do. The older waiter liked his job too but he loved to work over time and if someone is in the cafe late he waits for them to be done in a good way. The older waiter gave more respect to the old man because he new what he was feeling like and he has probably served the old man before.

I didn't really like the story and the movie because I didn't find it interesting. What I like is sport stories and books I don't like depressing stories and I didn't really understand the meaning of the story and I wouldn't rec amend the story to my friends. The story made it really easy to picture in your mined the scenes and the characters. When i watched the movie part the imagery was different then I expected.

Fight

Authors Note: This piece is going to be about what my prediction is after I read a book.

Have you ever wondered what will happen after a book that has lots of fighting in it? I have I want to make a prediction of what I think is going to happen The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This book is about these kids whose family doesn't have a lot of money and they go off and fight against each other and see who the winner is the place where the winner is from they get extra food for a year. My prediction of what I think will happen after the book is that the winning district will share their food with the other districts so they can all be happy.

My first reason why I predicted what I did is because the main character that tied with another person really cares about other people and she doesn't want them to get killed  and when there was just her and another person they didn't want to kill each other so they were going to eat these poisonous berries to kill both of them at the same time but they didn't and they got to go back to their districts and have the food.

My second reason why I predicted that is because she doesn't want them to be mad at her with all the food and she would be afraid of getting attract by the other districts or making them jealous of her and her district. She would also want to give the food equally to each district so they can all be happy and be nice to each other.

In conclusion we should all be like Katniss and  care about other people and do not be selfish and share with one another and be nice to each other.

Parody Poem

You know your red jacket that
was in
your closet

I used it to wipe up some
soda that was
on the ground

I hope you
forgive me
and say it was
fine

Be a Good Person

Author’s note: In this piece I am going to tell you the point of view in a book and how it effects the readers interpretation and thinking.

Have you ever watched a dog sled race or followed the race on the internet? If yes you should read the book Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner.  This book is about this boy whose grandfather is very sick and can’t pay his farms taxes so the boy the main character whose name is Willy is going to enter a dog sled race and he is going to race one man who is a great dog sled racer and if Willy wins they get money to pay the taxes of his grandfather’s farm.

The point of view is coming from the main character Willy and you hear what his grandfather is like and what the man he is racing is like his name is Stone fox. Stone fox is a tall and strong man who loves to race and he seems to not care about anything just himself. Willy’s grandfather is an old man who loves to farm and hangout with Willy but he has got this bad sickness where he can’t do anything. So from Willy’s point of view the reader knows about everything and even about Willy.

If the reader was told in Stone Foxes point of view it would make the story a lot different and we would know more about him and what he thinks of Willy and his grandfather and he would tell us lots about dog sledding. There was a scene in the book where Willy’s dog named Searchlight died right before Willy was going to win the race and Stone fox comes around the corner and sees him and stops and lets Willy carry Searchlight over the finish line and win the race so they could pay the taxes. That shows that Stone fox is a good man and actually cares about some things.

So be a good person like Stone fox was and let people go ahead of you if they are sad or need some help and don’t just stand there and watch be helpful and people would look at you and say he is a good person.

Stay Out of Trouble

Authors Note: This piece is going to be about the point of view of the main character in the book Holes By Louis Sachar. It is going to tell you what the character feels and thinks in the piece.

Imagine yourself getting in really bad trouble for something you didn't do and having to go to jail or a bad boys camp and you are trying really hard to get out of the situation. That’s what life was like for Stanley the main character in Holes by Louis Sachar. So here he is getting in really bad trouble for something he didn't do and having to go to a camp. So he is on the bus going to the camp out in the middle of a desert where it never is cool it is always blazing hot and not a lot of water for them each to have. Why’ll he is there he learns a lot from other kids that are there. He isn't that smart and he doesn't stand up for himself he just keeps moving on from situations.

This camp makes them work hard each day they each have to dig a hole five feet deep and five feet wide and everyday it gets harder to dig. Lots of people make fun of his looks and weight he just doesn’t care about them and he keeps working and doesn't care about him.  He has a friend there that talks to him and they just hang out he is very shy and quiet and hates where he is at. There is a warden there she is like the boss of the place and id you find something interesting you have to show it to the warden and she decides if you get the rest of the day of.

If the story was from her point of view it would be a little different. She would tell us all the different types of kids there and what they feel and lots of cool things that kids have brought in. she was kind of a mean lady and very strict and she’s very tall. She got the best place to sleep a log cabin and the kids got tents. There was a scene in the story about the warden and Stanley where Stanley found something cool in a hole at night and the warden came over and caught him. That tells the reader that the warden is kind of mean and is keeping an eye on the area where they dig their holes.

In conclusion the story would be very different if the point of view was on the warden it would change a lot of things like the tone and the way the reader feels about all the people in the story. So try not to get caught if you are doing something mad and stay out of trouble in the future.

Be Confident

Authors Note: This short piece is going to tell you about to main characters from two different stories and how they are similar to each other.

In the book Night Hoops  by Carl Deuker the main character Nick goes through hard times with his parents breaking up and a kid across the street from him. He is a big kid and great at basketball. He helps this one kid get good at basketball so they could play together on the varsity basketball team and become better friends. It is very hard for him to get this kid named Trent to basketball practices and games so in the hole book he has to stay strong and keep helping Trent through his hard times.

In the other book Million Dollar Throw by Mike Lupica the main character Brady is going to throw a football in a target at a football game if he makes it he gets a million dollars and if he gets the money he has to make a big decision whether to pay for a surgery that a girl he knows is going to have to save her life or to keep the money for later use. He decides to pay for the girls surgery. He had a very hard time making that decision.

In conclusion these books were very similar because they both involved dealing with a decision both helping someone and  both involved with sports and how you can get involved with that and making hard choices takes some thinking whether or not helping someone change their life around If you were in this situation what would you do I would be the good person and help them. So stay strong like they did and help anyone that needs help.

My family and I love to ski and snowboard I like snowboarding better then skiing. My brothers and my dad and I wanted to go skiing so we went to Colorado and to a couple different resorts. We went to Vail and Breckenridge. When we were at Breckenridge I had a scary thing happen to me. So we get of the chair lift and there is a cat track is a long flat trial and it is hard for snowboarders to go on because you need speed so I was going along and there was kind of a small cliff and I was losing speed so little by little I was going  down I got to far down and had to take my board of and my two brothers and my dad were far up ahead and were waiting for me. So when I took my board off I put it in one arm and tried to climb back up but my feet kept slipping and I lost grip of my feet and slid down and my snowboard left my arm and slid down and I thought for sure I was going to go over the edge and badly hurt myself and I just randomly just stopped without trying to stop myself and my board stopped to. So I took my board and tried to climb again this time I got out and so I put my board on and road the rest of they way and went down the mountain I saw just my brothers there and went down to them and told them what had happened and they told me that dad went down the mountain and that he was going to ride the chair back up and try to find me so we waited and waited until he found all of us and he told us that we have to stay closer to each other and to not get lost again.

Keep Going

Authors Note: This piece is going to be from a main characters point of view in a novel and what his life is like and how he changes it and how the story would be different from a different characters point of view.

In the novel Night Hoops by Carl Deuker the main character Nick has lots of great people helping him like his dad and mom. He is living a hard life in the book, his parents have split up and doesn't get to see his dad that much anymore. His dad wants him to keep playing the sport he loves the most and his mom wants him to focus more on school work then basketball. He isn't the only child in his family he also has an older brother who is always in his room playing an instrument and nick can never get him to play basketball with him.

In the book the point of view is coming from the main character in the novel we here what he feels an is thinking. From nicks point of view there is this one mean kid the same age and he is always mean to him and other people and he is afraid to even go near him. I will give you an example. So when nick was walking home from school they both didn't like each other so nick saw trent coming to him and trent pushed nick into a ditch and almost killed him by trying to drowned him. If the point of view was on the mean kid Trent lots of things would be different in the book. Trent would think that nick is kind of annoying and he would think he is the best at basketball. Trent is a bad kid and he gets in trouble lots of times by the police if we heard that from Trent's point of view it would be way different then nicks and how he thinks he is bad. Trent's reason why he pushed nick in the ditch is because when they were both playing football nick pushed trent really hard out of bounce and that was what started this whole thing.

If you read this book you will learn a lot about life and to keep going even when times are tough. I have never been in this situation before like nick and how there is this mean boy coming over to his house and playing ball on his court or hurting nick and almost killing him. hopefully you have never been in this situation like nick if you have I bet you had to fight through it and try to stay away from it. So when you get stuck try have people help you and try your best.

There are many sport books out there and with not always the main character as kind of like the narrator which everyone thinks it is going to be that way there are other sport books with different narrations in them. If you don't like sport book you should try and read this one and I think you will like it. So keep pushing even when times get hard.

Don't Stop

Authors Note: this short piece is going to be talking about the movie The Patriot  and compared to the book Jump Ship to Freedom and how they are alike.

This book and movie are very similar to each other and kind of tell the same story. In the movie there was lots of characters but in the book there were not that many. The book was about a mom and a son who where both slaves and his dad died in the war. They both were living with people that had the dad’s soldier notes and they were trying to take them so they could have their freedom. Back when  blacks joined the army they didn’t treat them nice and they had to spend a certain amount of time in the army to earn their and their families freedom. In the movie there was a slave fighting so he could be free just like Daniels dad.

They both were different in many ways. The book talked about what they family did when the dad was off fighting. They movie was just about how the war was fought and what they did. They were both in the same time period but they just showed how a family was like back then and how the war was. It was a very sad time for both the families that were living at home and the soldiers fighting for our freedom. And how some loved ones had died.

Over all, I thought that the book and movie were great and it told a lot about the revolutionary war and what slaves did during that time. The book didn’t tell that much about anything else only how the slaves tried to get their freedom. But I thought the book was great. I also thought the movie was great and the story line to it.

In conclusion I just want to say that If you were put in this situation what would you do different or do the same. They fought hard and never gave up they wanted to get their freedom badly so they could live a lot better live instead of having the British invade their homes and tell them what to do so they stayed strong and risked their lives for us.
